Former officers from Courses 33, 34, and 35 of the Nigeria Police Academy have called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to instruct Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun to enforce a National Industrial Court (NIC) verdict that ordered their reinstatement.
The officers contend that they were unlawfully retired before reaching the statutory 35 years of service or 60 years of age.
In April 2022, the NIC ruled in their favour, directing the IGP, Police Service Commission (PSC), and the Secretary of the Police Force to reinstate them. However, the officers allege the judgment remains unenforced.
Meanwhile, In an SOS letter to President Tinubu, the officers’ lawyer, Olatoye Ademola, expressed frustration over the lack of action despite prior indications of compliance.
“Our clients were very elated and optimistic when they received signals to report in Abuja between 12th and 16th August 2024 for further documentation, with expectations of receiving their posting letters and resuming duty,” Ademola wrote.
“However, over two months after the documentation was concluded, no official communication or action has been taken by the IGP.
“Our clients are left in confusion and dismay, having followed due process and complied with all directives.”
Ademola argued that the officers’ legally upheld rights should not be disregarded, stressing that the court’s decision must be implemented.
The officers called on President Tinubu to intervene, direct the IGP to regularise their appointments as mandated by the court, and ensure their swift reinstatement.
They emphasised that no appeal against the ruling is pending and urged the President to prioritise justice.
