The Ebonyi State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has declared a one-week warning strike, starting Monday, December 2, 2024, in protest of the state government’s failure to implement the new national minimum wage.
State NLC Chairman, Prof. Ogugua Egwu, made the announcement during a press briefing in Abakaliki, confirming that all affiliated unions would participate in the strike.
Egwu stated that the decision follows a directive from the national NLC on November 8, 2024, which instructed state councils in states not complying with the new wage to take action based on collective bargaining agreements.
On behalf of the State Council, Egwu said, “On behalf of the entire State Council, we hereby notify the public of a one-week warning strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress in Ebonyi State.
“This action underscores our resolve to ensure the rights of workers are upheld and the minimum wage is implemented without further delay.”
The strike will involve all unions under the NLC, sending a unified message against the state government’s failure to address workers’ welfare.
