Lawmakers elected on the platform of the Labour Party in Enugu State have been accused of deserting the party in the state.
The state Chairman of the party, Mr Casmir Agbo, stated this in Enugu on Friday.
He said it was regrettable that the lawmakers deserted the party that provided them the opportunity to get to their political positions.
According to him, “The rent of our state head office expired, and none of the lawmakers contributed one naira to offset it, or even buy furniture for the office use.
“It was the party’s governorship candidate during the 2023 general election in the state, Chief Chijioke Edeoga, that paid the rent.
“I laugh at these lawmakers, considering how they came begging to be given the party’s tickets. Some of them were given free forms.”
NewsNGR reports that LP has two senators, and seven House of Representatives members, with about ten state Assembly members in Enugu State.
On the recent defection of six LP House of Representatives lawmakers to the All Progressives Congress, Agbo, a lawyer, said, “We expect more LP lawmakers to defect. But it should be within the ambit of the law.
“The court will soon declare the seats of the LP lawmakers that defected to the Peoples Democratic Party in Enugu State vacant.
“People think they can do anything and get away with it. I advise our politicians that you don’t need to be in the majority to make a good lawmaker. In their own case, they decamped, and will lose their seats.
“We have opened a hall of shame for them. It is a sign of lacking confidence in oneself. It shows that they are freshers in politics.”
