Nollywood star Funke Akindele has issued a strong warning to potential pirates as her latest movie, Everybody Loves Jenifa, prepares to hit cinemas on Friday, December 13.
In a video posted on her Instagram account, the award-winning actress cautioned viewers against recording or sharing unauthorized clips of the movie, emphasizing the damaging effects of piracy on the film industry.
Addressing her fans directly, Akindele said, “I know you love me and want to promote Everybody Loves Jenifa, but filming it while in the cinema is not support. It’s piracy, and we must not encourage it.”
The actress stressed that security measures would be in place to prevent and address any act of piracy during screenings, warning that those caught recording the movie would face arrest.
“We’ve spent a lot of money on this project. Piracy is killing us. It’s not helping the brand, and we need to grow beyond this,” she added.
Akindele urged her fans to show their support by heading to cinemas, taking pictures by promotional stands, and sharing official trailers and teasers on social media.
“That is how you can truly support us,” she explained, emphasizing that illegally uploading or recording content would harm the industry.
Everybody Loves Jenifa marks another major release from the beloved actress, known for her iconic Jenifa’s Diary series.
