…rewards NAFEST contingent N30m for overall win
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, today presided over the 148th session of the State Executive Council meeting after resumption from his 3 weeks annual leave.
The Bayelsa Arts and Culture contingent emerged as overall champion of the recently held 36th National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST) 2024 in Abuja with 5 gold, 1 silver and1 bronze.
Also, Governor Diri was awarded the best security conscious Governor in West and Central Africa by the Africa Security See at an event held in Doha, Qatar.
He was represented by Brig. Gen. Eric Angaye (Rtd), Security Coordinator and Coordinator of the Bayelsa State Community Safety Corps.
Other awards were the Governor of the year on Marine and Blue Economy received on behalf of the governor by the Commissioner for Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Faith Izibenua Zibs-Godwin and an award of appreciation from the people of Okpoama, in Brass LGA received by Hon. Alfred Belemote Alfred Belmote Watson, Commissioner for Community Development.
Receiving the various awards at the Exco Chambers of Government House, Yenagoa, Governor Diri, renewed the commitment of his administration to improve security and make more investment in the blue economy.
On the NAFEST victory by Bayelsa contingent, the Governor presented a cash gift of N30 million to the athletes for making the state proud.
“In appreciation of your feat you keep achieving every year and because you have been representing your state so well and over the years, on behalf of your government, we want to acknowledge and appreciate you with the sum of 30 million”, Governor Diri stated.
