The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has demonstrated his commitment to the welfare of workers and pensioners by approving a Christmas bonus of N100,000.
This gesture is aimed at easing the financial burdens of the yuletide season for public servants and retirees in the state.
The approval was disclosed in a statement released late Tuesday by the State Head of Service, George Nweke.
According to Nweke, the bonus reflects Governor Fubara’s dedication to enhancing the lives of Rivers people, particularly during the festive period.
“I wish to inform the general public that His Excellency Governor Siminalayi Fubara, in the spirit of the yuletide, has approved the sum of N100,000 for civil servants, public servants, and pensioners in Rivers State, to enable them to have a fulfilled Christmas celebration,” the statement read.
The bonus applies to workers in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), as well as pensioners in both civil and public services.
Governor Fubara approved the initiative on Monday, December 23, 2024, with instructions for immediate implementation.
This is the second consecutive year that civil servants in Rivers State are receiving a Christmas bonus of N100,000 under Governor Fubara’s administration.
However, this year marks the first time pensioners have been included in the initiative, a development that has been widely applauded.
“The N100,000 Christmas bonus for both civil and public servants, as well as pensioners, is part of Governor Fubara’s ‘Rivers First’ initiative, aimed at securing the well-being and happiness of Rivers people across various sectors of the economy,” Nweke added.
This move has further cemented Governor Fubara’s reputation for prioritizing the welfare of Rivers State’s workforce and retirees, setting a benchmark for inclusive governance during the festive season.
