Grace Ike, a seasoned journalist with Advocate Broadcasting Network (ADBN), has made history as the first female chairperson of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) council.

She was elected unopposed and sworn in on Wednesday, marking a new chapter in the unionโ€™s leadership.

In her inaugural address, Ike expressed gratitude for the trust placed in her and pledged to โ€œrepositionโ€ the NUJ FCT council through innovative projects.

โ€œWith immense gratitude and a profound sense of responsibility, I stand before you today as your elected Chairman of the NUJ FCT council,โ€ she said.

โ€œThis moment is both humbling and inspiring.โ€

She assured members of her commitment to unity and progress, highlighting her plans to strengthen the ideals of journalism in collaboration with the newly elected NUJ national leadership.

โ€œAs I assume this noble office, I am reminded of the words of John C. Maxwell: โ€˜A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.โ€™ With these words as our guide, we shall chart a course toward unity, progress, and excellence for our union,โ€ she said.

Alongside Ike, other officials were elected to the councilโ€™s executive committee, including:

Yahaya Ndambabo (Voice of Nigeria) as vice-chairman
Jide Oyekunle (Independent Newspaper) as secretary
Sandra Udeike (Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria) as treasurer
The new leadership will oversee the FCT councilโ€™s activities for the next three years.

Grace Ikeโ€™s journey to this historic position has been marked by excellence and dedication.

She previously served as the chairperson of the House of Representatives Press Corps and vice-chair of the FCT Correspondents Chapel.
