Gunmen abducted several passengers on a bus travelling from Onitsha to Ado-Ekiti in Emure-Ile, Ekiti, on Sunday night.

The attackers ambushed the bus in Emure Local Government Area, taking both the passengers and the driver, Mr. Sunday Emmanuel, into the bush.

A source from the Road Transport Employer Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) Ado-Ekiti Motor Terminal confirmed the incident, The Nation reports.

The kidnappers reportedly contacted the driver’s family and demanded ₦30 million in ransom for each passenger.

He also revealed that the kidnappers abandoned several children on the bus, and their cries alerted passersby, who informed the police.

The source described the ordeal, saying, “They drove the bus into the bush and dragged people inside the bush. They called the family of the driver and I pleaded to speak with the driver, and after our conversation, they demanded a ransom of N30 million. They said they would call back, but they have not done so yet.”

“They left some children on the bus, and it seems that some people on the farm saw the kids and alerted the police in Emure-Owo.

“The driver’s union in Ado-Ekiti is currently holding a meeting on how to reach out to the kidnappers”, he said.
