The Islamic High School Old Students Association has called on the Oyo State Police Command to ensure that individuals without direct involvement in the tragic Ibadan stampede are not detained longer than necessary.
In a statement signed by its National President, Dr. Bayo Busari, the association urged the authorities to approach the case with professionalism and sensitivity.
The stampede, which claimed the lives of no fewer than 35 children, has left the community in mourning, with eight individuals already in police custody over the incident.
Commending the police and the Oyo State Government for their swift actions, Busari emphasized the importance of a thorough and meticulous investigation.
“This investigation is not just to establish the culpability of individuals or organisations involved with the organisation of the event, but to proffer preventive measures against a future occurrence,” he stated.
Dr. Busari further appealed for fairness, urging the police to avoid unnecessary detention of individuals who have no direct link to the incident, reiterating the need for justice to be balanced with humanity.
