The Kano State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in its crackdown on counterfeit currency operations, recovering fake currencies with a total value equivalent to N129.5 billion.
Disclosing the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Salman Garba Dogo, revealed that three suspects were apprehended with counterfeit currencies in different denominations, including $3,366,000, CFA51,970,000, and N1,443,000.
The operation, which took place at the Bompai headquarters, also involved the seizure of the fake currencies, marking a major success for the command.
Dogo, represented by his Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, emphasized that similar arrests had been made in the past, underlining the police force’s zero-tolerance policy toward such criminal activities.
He said, “We will not condone this,” highlighting the command’s commitment to cracking down on counterfeit currency operations.
In a separate incident, Dogo confirmed the deaths of at least two individuals following a violent clash in Kano.
The altercation, which occurred in Rimi, Kofar Mata, and Yakasai after a football match, led to reprisal attacks in the area.
The police swiftly intervened, conducting an on-the-spot assessment and deploying officers to restore order in the affected locations.
Investigation into the cause of the violent incident is currently underway, with authorities working to identify the perpetrators.
In a broader scope, the Kano State Police Command has also arrested 62 suspects over the past two weeks for various major crimes, with several successful recoveries made in the process.
