The Katsina State Police Command has successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued 10 victims from armed bandits along the Katsina–Magama Jibia road.
The operation, carried out by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia and his team, highlighted the force’s swift response and commitment to combating crime.
This development was disclosed in a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, and made available to journalists on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on December 24, 2024, at about 8:30 p.m., when armed bandits attacked a commercial vehicle at Kwanar Makera in Jibia Local Government Area, Katsina State.
The attackers, wielding dangerous weapons, aimed to kidnap the 10 occupants of the vehicle.
“Upon receiving the distress call, the DPO of Jibia swiftly led a team of operatives to the scene,” the statement revealed.
“The team engaged the bandits in a gun duel, successfully thwarted the kidnapping attempt, and rescued all ten victims.”
Tragically, four of the victims sustained gunshot injuries during the attack. Despite being rushed to the hospital, two of them succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, and an investigation into the incident is in progress.
The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, commended the officers for their bravery and urged them to maintain their dedication to duty.
He also called on the public to assist law enforcement by providing useful information on criminal activities.
The Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents, especially during the festive season.
