MTN to Cut Ties with Exchange Telecom Over Unpaid Debts, Says NCC

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has approved the disconnection of Exchange Telecommunications Limited from MTN Nigeria due to unpaid interconnect charges.

In a statement, the NCC disclosed that Exchange was given a chance to address the issue but failed to provide a valid reason for its inability to settle the debt.

โ€œThe Commission has approved the disconnection of Exchange from MTN, in line with Section 100 of the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003, and the Guidelines on Procedure for Granting Approval to Disconnect Telecommunications Operators, 2012,โ€ said Reuben Muoka, NCCโ€™s Director of Public Affairs.

The NCC explained that MTN will stop routing voice and data traffic through Exchange five days after this notice. Alternative channels will be used to connect with other network providers.

The disconnection will remain in place until further notice, according to the NCCโ€™s statement.
