The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has urged the general public to disregard reports published on its official website.
The warning, issued on Wednesday night, was disclosed by the bureau on its official X handle, formerly Twitter.
According to the bureau, efforts to recover the website are ongoing, adding that reports published on the website should be ignored.
The post read, “This is to inform the public that the NBS Website has been hacked and we are working to recover it. Please disregard any message or report posted until the website is fully restored. Thank you.”
On December 16, 2024, the NBS released the headline inflation rate for November 2024, which rose to 34.60 per cent, representing a marginal increase of 0.72 per cent from the October 2024 rate of 33.88 per cent.
Barely 24 hours later, the statistics agency reported that over N2.23tn was paid as ransom to kidnappers between May 2023 and April 2024.
Subsequently, the NBS released a report titled ‘Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey 2024’ on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, which stated that over 25 million phones were stolen in Nigeria between March 2023 and April 2024.
As of the time of filing this report, details regarding the time and date the bureau lost control of the website had not been disclosed.
However, the NBS assured Nigerians that stringent measures are in place to recover the website.
