Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, resumed duties in parliament on Tuesday after his discharge from hospital following a prostate surgery over the weekend.
Netanyahu underwent surgery on Sunday at Jerusalem’s Hadassah Medical Centre to address a urinary tract infection caused by prostate enlargement.
In a video statement on Sunday evening, Dr. Ofer Gofrit, head of the urology department at Jerusalem’s Hadassah Medical Center, said the procedure went well and “there was no fear” of cancer.
His office had stated on Sunday that Netanyahu would resume duties once he fully recovers, but the Prime minister was pictured on Tuesday interacting with lawmakers during a parliamentary session focused on budgetary proposals.
His latest medical procedure is his third in recent months as he underwent hernia surgery in March and had a pacemaker implanted in July 2023.
Netanyahu was billed to give his testimonies within three days, this week, in his ongoing trial but the judges overseeing his trial accepted a request from his lawyer on Sunday to call it off.
The court agreed with Netanyahu’s lawyer, Amit Hadad, to cancel the hearing after Hadad argued that Netanyahu is scheduled to attend a medical procedure and will be hospitalized for “a number of days.”
