The Federal Government has extended its condolences to South Korea following the devastating crash of Jeju Air Flight 2216, which claimed 179 lives.
The Boeing 737-800, returning from Bangkok, Thailand, crashed while attempting to land at Muan International Airport in southern South Korea on Sunday, December 29, 2024.
The aircraft skidded off the runway, colliding with a wall and triggering a massive explosion. Out of the 181 passengers and crew, only two survived.
In a statement on Sunday, Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed the government’s grief over the incident, describing it as a profound loss.
“The Federal Republic of Nigeria wishes to express her sincere condolences to the Government and People of the Republic of Korea for the unfortunate crash of Jeju Air Flight 2216 that occurred on Sunday, December 29th, 2024.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria sympathises with the Government of South Korea and the families of the victims of the deadly plane crash,” the statement read.
Nigeria reaffirmed its solidarity with South Korea during this difficult period and offered its prayers for the families of the victims.
