The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, announced on Wednesday that the Nigerian Army has developed innovative strategies to address terrorism, banditry, and violent extremism.
Oluyede made the disclosure at the closing ceremony of the COAS Annual Conference in Abuja, where key military officials discussed the Army’s administration, training, and operations.
“I am delighted to state that the past three days have been refreshing and rewarding because we have reflected as a family on issues concerning the administration, training, and operations of the Nigerian Army,” Oluyede stated.
The Army Chief highlighted that discussions focused on strategies to confront terrorism, separatist movements, and other security threats facing Nigeria.
He assured Nigerians that the Army is committed to integrating modern technology into its operations.
“As a follow-up to our deliberations, the Nigerian Army will, in the coming months, invest more in modern technology to aid in training and ultimately fight these wars,” Oluyede said.
He emphasised that training is key to operational success, directing the Army headquarters to enhance realistic, focused training.
“The Army headquarters will promote realistic and focused training throughout the force and conduct a thorough review of the Army’s specialized training and operations to achieve the desired victory,” he added.
On soldiers’ welfare, Oluyede announced efforts to improve accommodation facilities, directing the swift completion of ongoing housing projects.
“I have directed that all ongoing office and residential accommodation projects in the Nigerian Army be completed speedily and allocated to deserving personnel,” he said.
He also outlined plans to build a soldier-first culture, prioritizing the welfare of personnel.
“I look forward to establishing a soldier-first culture across the force by ensuring proper attention is paid to soldiers’ welfare, acknowledging their crucial role as the foundation of the Nigerian Army’s strength, operational readiness, and mission success,” Oluyede concluded.
