Nigerian wonderkid attracts interest from Chelsea, Juventus, and Bayern

Super Falcons starlet Janet Akekoromowei is emerging as one of the hottest prospects in women’s football, with Chelsea, Juventus, Bayern Munich, and VfB Stuttgart reportedly vying for her signature, Soccernet.football reports.

The 16-year-old striker has caught the attention of Europe’s elite with her remarkable performances on both the youth and senior stages.

According to ScoreNigeria, Juventus have already initiated preliminary discussions with Akekoromowei’s representatives about a potential move. However, the Italian giants are expected to face stiff competition from Women’s Super League champions Chelsea and German heavyweights Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart.

Akekoromowei, a graduate of the Asisat Oshoala Academy, has been dazzling at the ongoing WAFU B U17 Girls’ Cup in Ghana.

She underlined her immense potential with a stunning hat-trick in Nigeria’s emphatic 9-0 victory over the Republic of the Niger. Her exploits have solidified her reputation as a natural finisher with exceptional movement and clinical precision in front of goal.

The teenager also featured in Nigeria’s squad at the 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup and made her senior debut just a month later in a friendly against Algeria.

Comparisons with Super Falcons legend Asisat Oshoala have been inevitable, with Akekoromowei herself citing the former Liverpool and Arsenal star as her inspiration.

Despite the growing interest, any move to Europe will have to wait.

FIFA regulations prohibit the international transfer of players under the age of 18, meaning Akekoromowei would not be eligible for such a move until November 2025.

Nonetheless, the buzz surrounding the young forward signals a bright future. If her current trajectory continues, she could soon join the ranks of Nigeria’s finest exports to women’s football, following in the footsteps of her idol, Oshoala.
