Obasanjo: ‘God’s Vision for Nigeria Is a Land of Milk and Honey, Not a Desert’

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has reaffirmed his unwavering belief in the country’s potential, declaring that Nigeria is destined for greatness.

In an interview with Arise News on the 30th of December, 2024, Obasanjo expressed his optimism, describing the nation as one that is meant to “flow with milk and honey” despite its current economic struggles.

Acknowledging the hardships facing the country, he urged Nigerians to hold on to hope.

“We are going through hardship,” he admitted, but emphasized, “Nigerians should never lose hope. I am an incurable optimist about Nigeria, and we have a great country.”

Reflecting on the nation’s trajectory, Obasanjo insisted, “Where we are is not where God wants us to be. And I believe that sooner than later, we will get to where God wants us to be.”

He further elaborated, stating, “God wants Nigeria to be a land flowing with milk and honey, not a desert, not a basket case, not a failed country. We are where we are either through the inadvertent or advertent actions of our leaders and, to some extent, our followers.”

Despite these challenges, Obasanjo’s vision remains clear: “God is the God of great things for Nigeria. I believe God has great things for Nigeria in the immediate future.”
