A devastating fire broke out at a parish of the Christ Apostolic Church in Ibadan, Oyo State, yesterday night, reportedly trapping several worshippers inside.
The incident occurred around 9:30 PM at Wisdom Estate, Road 1G, Olohunda Road, in the Lagelu Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses reported that the church was holding a Friday vigil when the fire started.
One witness recalled, “The incident happened around 9:30 PM. They were likely having a Friday vigil, and some worshippers had already fallen asleep to rest before the vigil began.”
Another witness described the frightening scene, saying, “There was an elderly woman who was so frail that she could hardly walk. She was still inside the church when the fire was raging.”
A church member, who wished to remain anonymous, stated, “People were still inside the church during the fire. I’ll get back to you later, please.”
At the time of this report, the cause of the fire was still unknown.
Confirming the incident, Akinyemi Akinyinka, General Manager of Oyo State Fire Services, said, “Our personnel responded based on information from one Kunle Junaid.” He assured that further updates would be provided.
