Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has called on traditional rulers to work closely with his administration to promote peace and protect lives and property within their domains.
Governor Fubara made this appeal during the presentation of Certificates of Recognition and Staff of Office to four newly recognized traditional rulers at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
The event honored: HRM Winston Odize Alamina Oputibeya XII, Amanyanabo of Koniju, Okrika Local Government Area.
HRM Eze Noble Friday Uwoh (CSP rtd), Eze Igbu-Ehuda (Ahoada) IV, Ahoada-East Local Government Area.
HRH Prince Ike Ehie, Eze Igbu Orilukwoe, Ahoada-East Local Government Area.
HRH Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, Amanyanabo of Torusarama Piri, Degema Local Government Area.
Governor Fubara congratulated the monarchs, emphasizing that their recognition is not merely ceremonial but a call to duty.
He urged them to use their positions responsibly, advocating for peace and ensuring the security of their communities.
Addressing the newly recognized rulers, the Governor said: “Your appointment is not for personal aggrandizement but a call for service and a responsibility to help us protect lives and property in your domains. I urge you to partner with the government to ensure the success of this administration in delivering the dividends of democracy to our people.”
While affirming the government’s authority to revoke recognition in cases of misconduct, Governor Fubara expressed his hope that such measures would not be necessary. He cautioned against using the positions to sow discord but rather to foster collaboration with the government.
Governor Fubara added:
“I know that you are all men of integrity. Support the course of governance so we can succeed together. This is a privileged position, and I trust you will use it in the best interests of your people.”
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Engr. Charles Amadi, praised Governor Fubara for enriching the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers by recognizing two Royal Majesties and two Royal Highnesses.
This development underscores the Fubara administration’s commitment to empowering traditional institutions as crucial partners in governance, peacebuilding, and the protection of lives and property in Rivers State.
