Aisha Buhari, wife of former President Muhammadu Buhari, joined governors, international diplomats, and cultural enthusiasts from around the world to grace the 2024 Calabar Carnival street party themed โOur Shared Prosperityโ.
The former first lady on Saturday joined the Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq, and Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo in celebrating the annual cultural event which is celebrated in eastern Nigeria.
The Calabar Carnival, which started on December 1 and will run until December 31, featured representatives from the European Union, the United Nations and performances by 12 bands.
Speaking at the event, Governor Otu described this yearโs edition as โinternationally engagingโ while highlighting the carnivalโs ability to attract a global audience.
He said, โThe theme of this year is โOur Shared Prosperity.โ That shared prosperity is actually internationally engaging because we have the global audience right here, we have people from all continents of the world right here.
โThere is a need to build economic, social, and cultural prosperity into what we are doing for our people to share.โ
The Calabar Carnival has become a symbol of Nigeriaโs rich cultural heritage, with its elaborate costumes, energetic performances, and diverse attendees which reflects the spirit of community and shared prosperity.
