Nigeria’s prestigious university, the Obafemi Awolowo University has conferred a honorary doctorate degree on the Chief Executive Officer of AKD Solution, Daere Akobo
Akobo was conferred the award alongside the wife of the president, Oluremi Tinubu, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Nigeria, Karl Toriola, Professor Anthony Adegbulugbe and the Group Chairman of Mutual Benefits Plc, Dr. Akinade Akanmu Ogunbiyi.
The AKD boss received the award during the institution’s 48th Convocation Ceremony on Saturday, December 14, 2024.
The three-day convocation ceremony was presided over by OAU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Simeon Bamire.
The institution at the event graduated 7,368 students.
The VC praised Akobo and other honorees for their exceptional contributions to humanity particularly their role in advancing social course through philanthropy.

Akobo who is also the Group CEO of an international business conglomerate leads the Daere Afonya-a Akobo Foundation (DAAF), where he actively oversees several transformative initiatives.
Akobo has over 20 years of experience in the operations of the Oil & Gas sector, across a wide range of spectrum, including electrical, instrumentation, condition and vibration monitoring, flow metering processes and procurement.
Daere has worked with the International Petroleum Company of Nigeria as an Electrical Instrumentation Superintendent before moving-on to TOTAL E&P as a Technical Stock Controller supporting the Procurement Department.
Akobo in 2009 founded Plant Engineering Limited, which was later-on renamed PE Energy Limited.
The entrepreneur holds a degree in Applied Physics and is a distinguished alumnus of Harvard Business School, the INSEAD Business School and the Manchester Business School.
