In the aftermath of the December 22 attack on Tingbwa Gidan Ado village in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have arrested 20 suspects believed to be connected to the killings.
The tragic incident, which claimed 15 lives, has been met with swift military action aimed at restoring peace in the troubled region.
Maj. Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, Commander of OPSH and General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, announced the development during a Christmas luncheon for troops in Jos on Thursday.
He stated that the arrests were made after hours of intense night operations.
“Following sustained efforts, we apprehended 20 suspects directly and indirectly involved in the attack on Tingbwa Gidan Ado.
Additionally, we recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition, disrupting the activities of criminal elements in the area,” Abubakar revealed.
The commander emphasized the importance of maintaining discipline and professionalism among the troops while praising their commitment and sacrifices.
“Your courage and resilience, especially during the festive season when many are far from family, do not go unnoticed. These qualities embody the highest form of service to the nation,” he said.
Abubakar also expressed gratitude to military leadership, including Gen. Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, and Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Army Staff, for their strategic guidance in achieving operational successes.
The Christmas gathering not only celebrated the troops’ dedication but also underscored the importance of their role in ensuring peace and security in Plateau State.
