Garba Shehu, former spokesperson for ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has clarified reports about the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) revoking a plot of land linked to the Muhammadu Buhari Foundation.
Shehu explained in a statement, that the land does not belong to the former president but was acquired legally by associates on behalf of the foundation.
“The land was lawfully acquired for the foundation by associates acting in good faith,” Shehu said.
He revealed that the Muhammadu Buhari Foundation, established by the former president’s supporters, had faced issues with the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) over what was described as an exorbitant certificate of occupancy fee.
The fee, according to Shehu, was inconsistent with charges imposed on similar organisations.
While the exact reasons for the land revocation remain unclear, Shehu suggested it could have been due to an error or deliberate administrative action.
He further clarified that Buhari personally owns a separate plot of land in Abuja, allocated before his presidency.
Shehu added, “During his tenure, Buhari declined an additional land offer, insisting that priority should go to those without allocations.”
Shehu advised critics to confirm the facts before making assumptions and cautioned against dragging Buhari’s name into unnecessary controversies.
