The Executive Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chijioke Ihunwo, has appealed to his opponents in the October 5th local government election to withdraw their cases at the election petition tribunal.
Ihunwo made the appeal when he received a delegation of chairmanship candidates who contested against him in the election.
The chairman emphasized that continuing to pursue the cases at the tribunal would be a waste of time and resources, considering the election has already taken place.
Instead, he urged his opponents to join hands with him to develop Obio/Akpor Local Government Area for the benefit of the people.
Ihunwo expressed his commitment to dismantling the structures that have limited the growth of the people of Obio/Akpor and called for collaborative efforts to take the LGA to the โpromised land.โ
He emphasized that the local government belongs to all the people, not just a select few, and urged his opponents to work with him to protect the interests of the people.
He said: โI want to sincerely thank you all for the visit and for the congratulations but one thing we must know is that this local government belongs to all of us, it is not anybodyโs private property hence we must jointly protect it from the hands of those who want to perpetually entrenched themselves in the affairs of our LGA, we must not accept their greed.โ
โWe are also aware that most of you are in the tribunal challenging the outcome of the October 5th local government election, I want to use this medium to appeal that you withdraw your cases because of the many things we are doing to make life better for our people, letโs rather join hands together to develop Obio Akpor for the good our people and generations yet on born.โ
The delegation of chairmanship candidates, led by Hon. Darlington Chibuike, congratulated Ihunwo on his victory in the election and pledged their support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
He said:โWe, the coalition of chairmanship candidates in Obio Akpor local government are here to congratulate you on your victory in the October 5th local government election, to also thank the Executive governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara for ensuring a credible election, as a coalition we are ready to work with your leadership, all we are asking for is that you carry us along in the scheme of things.โ
