Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called for the strengthening of resilient democracies across Africa, emphasizing their critical role in governance, human rights, and inclusivity.
He made this statement during his participation in the 7th Africa Political Summit and Diamond Awards in Zanzibar, East Africa, which took place from December 11 to 14, 2024.
The summit, organized by the Association of Political Consultants Africa (APCA), brought together political leaders, consultants, and stakeholders to discuss the theme, โBuilding Resilient Democracies: Elections, Transitions, and Governance.โ
Represented by the Special Adviser on Rural Development, Nurudeen Agbaje, Sanwo-Olu was honored with the 2024 Democracy Award for his visionary leadership.
He used the platform to showcase Lagos Stateโs advancements under his THEMES + Developmental Agenda, highlighting key sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, commerce, tourism, and security.
Sanwo-Olu also stressed the need for continued investment in electoral technology, robust civic education, and increased political inclusivity to fortify Africaโs democratic systems.
APCA President Kipngeno Duncan presented the award to the governor, praising his unwavering commitment to democratic governance in Lagos.
The governorโs participation at the summit further solidified Lagos Stateโs reputation as a leader in democratic governance in Africa.
