The Directorate of Road Transport Services (DRTS) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has warned motorists to refrain from speeding, especially during the festive season.
The Director of DRTS, Abdulateef Bello, gave the warning during an interview on Wednesday in Abuja.
He highlighted the risks associated with speeding, particularly in light of ongoing road construction projects within the territory.
Bello noted that road accidents caused by speeding, drunkenness, and other dangerous behaviours are common during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
He explained that the festivities often attract an influx of visitors from other states, many of whom may not be familiar with the FCT’s roadways.
“It is crucial for all road users, especially visitors, to drive with extreme caution. There are no excuses for driving with expired driver’s licenses, or none at all, overloading, and the use of rickety vehicles that could endanger passengers.”
He further disclosed that DRTS operatives had intensified road surveillance across the FCT to enforce safety compliance among motorists.
Bello urged all drivers to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to ensure a safe and accident-free Yuletide season.
