NIGERIA’S Super Eagles B have qualified for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) after beating Ghana 3-1 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo today.
The Nigerian side won the tie 3-1 on aggregate, the first leg in Accra last Sunday having ended 0-0.
An excellent first-half showing propelled Daniel Ogunmodede’s side to the victory, with the Super Eagles B netting all three goals before the break.
Ghana pulled one back in the second half, but it was too little, too late.
The key period of the match for the Super Eagles B was a seven-minute stretch in which they scored all three goals.
Sodiq Ismail got them on their way with a breakaway goal in the 19th minute and captain Nduka Junior doubled the advantage three minutes later, smashing home from close range.
Saviour Isaac extended the lead in the 26th minute, stealing the ball off Ghana as they tried to play out from the back and finishing with composure.
Stephen Amenkona gave Ghana some home with his strike 17 minutes from time, but Nigeria held on to seal their passage to the tournament reserved for footballers based in their domestic leagues.
This is sweet revenge for Nigeria, who were stopped from qualifying for the 2009 and 2023 editions of the tournament by Ghana, and also lost the 2014 semi-final on penalties to their bitter West African rivals.
The 2025 CHAN will be held in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania in February.
