The Nigerian CHAN Super Eagles have taken a significant step toward qualification for the 2025 CHAN tournament after defeating Ghana’s Black Stars 3-1 in the second leg of their qualifying tie in Uyo on Saturday.
The result followed a goalless draw in the first leg played in Ghana, giving Nigeria a strong advantage on home turf.
The Eagles were in scintillating form, putting the game beyond Ghana’s reach with a dominant first-half performance.
Sodiq I. opened the scoring in the 19th minute, before Junior N. doubled Nigeria’s lead just three minutes later in the 22nd minute. Saviour I. added a third in the 25th minute, giving the Super Eagles a commanding 3-0 lead at halftime.
Ghana mounted a second-half response, and in the 73rd minute, Amankona S. pulled one back for the Black Stars, making it 3-1.
However, Nigeria’s early three-goal cushion proved to be an insurmountable advantage as the Eagles held firm to secure the victory and edge closer to securing a place in the tournament.
With the 3-1 aggregate scoreline, the Super Eagles now have the upper hand in the qualification race.
