A deadly terrorist attack on the Kungurki community in the Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State has left one elderly man dead and 13 residents, including a two-month-old baby and his mother, abducted.
The attack, which took place under the cover of darkness, was confirmed by counterterrorism expert Zagazola Makama in a post on his X handle on Sunday.
According to intelligence sources, the attackers stormed the village firing sporadically, causing panic among the residents.
โThe attackers moved swiftly, rounding up their victims and retreating into the nearby forest. It was a terrifying experience,โ one local resident recounted.
In addition to the abductions, the terrorists looted several shops in the community, stealing food, household items, and valuables before fleeing.
โThey took women and children, and an elderly man was killed in cold blood,โ Makama added.
The attack has once again highlighted the persistent insecurity in Zamfara State and the surrounding region, where terrorists and armed groups continue to terrorize vulnerable communities.
Despite efforts by the government and security forces to tackle the issue, residents remain at high risk of such attacks, leaving many in fear for their lives.
Local authorities have yet to release an official statement, but the community is calling for swift action to bring the attackers to justice and ensure the safety of remaining residents.
Security experts are urging the government to intensify efforts to curb the escalating violence and provide greater protection for civilians in the region.
