President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Mr. Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the Acting Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), effective immediately.
The appointment follows the pre-retirement leave of the current AGF, Dr. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, who is set to officially retire on March 7, 2025.
In a statement, President Tinubu emphasised the need for seamless leadership in managing Nigeriaโs treasury and described Ogunjimiโs appointment as a step towards strengthening treasury policy reforms and financial governance.
He stated, โThe Office of the Accountant General of the Federation is pivotal to our nationโs treasury management operations.
โMr. Ogunjimiโs wealth of experience and notable competence will ensure the continued effectiveness of this vital institution as we advance our economic reform agenda.โ
Ogunjimi, a seasoned civil servant with over 30 years of experience in financial management, previously served as Director of Funds in the Office of the Accountant General and Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
An accomplished professional, he is a chartered accountant, certified fraud examiner, chartered stockbroker, and chartered security and investment specialist.
Ogunjimi holds a Bachelorโs degree in Accountancy and a Masterโs in Finance and Accounting.
President Tinubu also commended Dr. Madein for her dedication and significant contributions to Nigeriaโs financial management system during her tenure.
