South African singer Tyla has made history by surpassing Beyoncé’s record for the most streamed album by a Black female artist in 2024.
Her self-titled debut album achieved this monumental feat after accumulating an impressive 1.565 billion streams on Spotify, edging past Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter, which had 1.564 billion.
Not only is Tyla’s album the most-streamed of all time by a female African artist, but its lead single, Water, has also made waves, nearing one billion streams on Spotify.
The track even claimed the inaugural Best African Music Performance award at the 66th Grammy Awards.
However, despite her massive success, Tyla’s album and its deluxe version were notably absent from the nominations for the 67th Grammys.
Still, she stands tall as the most awarded African artist of the year, with 20 accolades under her belt, including 1 Grammy, 3 MTV EMAs, 2 BET Awards, 1 MTV VMA, and many more prestigious honors, cementing her place as a global music force.
