Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the quality of life for residents by providing essential services that foster unity and promote sustainable development.
Governor Fubara made the pledge during the inauguration of the 6.55km Okania-Ogbogoro-Mgbaraja (and Mgbuoba) Roads Project in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area on Thursday.
The road, which cuts across Okania community through Ogbogoro, connects to the ongoing Port Harcourt Ring Road project.
Speaking at the Okania-Ogbogoro Road junction, Governor Fubara expressed his fulfillment in keeping the promise made to the people during the campaign.
He recalled witnessing the deplorable state of the road and vowed to address the issue, a commitment now fulfilled.
“This is a promise made, and a promise fulfilled,” Governor Fubara said.
“We don’t start projects and leave them halfway. This road is vital to easing the suffering of our people, and we are happy to have delivered it.”
The governor reiterated that the government’s role is to understand the needs of its people and work towards making life easier.
He further thanked the communities for their support and cooperation, which played a key role in the completion of the project.
In addition to the road, Governor Fubara promised immediate attention to the rehabilitation of the community secondary school and health centre, ensuring that the welfare of the people remains a top priority.
Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, who inaugurated the project, commended Governor Fubara for his visionary leadership.
He highlighted that good roads are not just physical infrastructure, but essential in boosting local businesses, improving accessibility, and enhancing the overall quality of life.
He praised the people’s warm reception, noting that the road would facilitate development and connect the communities, unlocking their economic potential.
“Governor Fubara’s leadership is transforming lives, even in difficult times,” said Dr Kefas.
“This road is a testament to his commitment to good governance and his care for the less privileged.”
The Commissioner for Works, Barrister Elloka Tasie-Amadi, outlined that the project, initially flagged off in May 2024 as a 5km stretch, was extended in October to cover the Mgbaraja axis, making it 6.55km in total.
The road, which includes a 10.3-meter-wide stretch and 5km of drains, now links Apara Kingdom to Nkpor Kingdom, further enhancing connectivity within the region.
Amb Chijioke Ihunwo, Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government, lauded the Governor’s intervention in reviving the long-neglected road.
He promised that the people of Obio/Akpor would not take the government’s efforts for granted.
Speaking on behalf of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), the contractor responsible for the project, Eric Shen expressed gratitude for being part of the project, despite challenges posed by the rainy season.
He assured the public of the quality of the road delivered.
The event was a celebration of community cooperation and the continued effort of Governor Fubara’s administration to provide better living conditions for Rivers people.
