Yahaya Bello Finally Released From Kuje Prison

Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello has been released from Kuje Custodial Centre after meeting the bail conditions set by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High court, Maitama.

Justice Maryann Anenih had admitted Bello to N500m bail, in the alleged N110bn money laundering case brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Bello was also granted N500m bail in a separate suit involving alleged N80.2bn money laundering.

Spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service, FCT Command, Adamu Duza, who confirmed his release on Friday, said he has met his bail conditions.

โ€œYahaya Bello has been released after meeting the bail conditions. He was released this evening (Friday),โ€ Duza told Punch

โ€œThe Controller of NCoS FCT, Ajibogun Olatubosun, was on the ground to ensure his smooth release and that all protocols were observed,โ€ he added.

Justice Anenih in her ruling had asked the former governor to provide two sureties in like sum. The sureties must be notable Nigerians with landed property in Maitama, Jabi, Utako, Apo, Guzape, Garki and Asokoro.

Bello was also asked to deposit his international passport and other travel documents with the court.

The court had on December 10 refused the ex-governorโ€™s bail application on the grounds that it was filed prematurely, as he was neither in custody nor before the court when the application was filed.

However, Belloโ€™s fresh application was approved on Thursday, leading to his release.
