Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has made it clear that the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP)-led administration is undeterred by the maneuverings of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is determined to wrest control of the state in the 2027 general election.
Speaking at the Government House in Kano, Yusuf’s message was one of unwavering resolve.
This statement comes in the wake of comments made by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the NNPP’s presidential candidate in last year’s election, who boldly declared that he would diminish the APC’s influence in Kano ahead of 2027.
In response, the APC’s Director of Publicity, Alhaji Bala Ibrahim, quickly downplayed the threat, asserting that the NNPP posed no real danger to the APC’s ambitions.
Just days ago, the APC’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, weighed in, confidently stating that his party was the dominant force to reckon with in the upcoming 2027 election.
Addressing party members at the 8th and 9th APC Kano State House of Assembly Forum Dinner, Ganduje, represented by the State Chairman Abdullahi Abbas, expressed his disbelief at Kwankwaso’s claim of widespread public support.
He further emphasized that, had it not been for the APC’s internal struggles, Kwankwaso would not have triumphed in the previous elections, adding that those who had once supported him were now disillusioned and regretful.
In his words, “Kwankwasiyya is done,” and he even claimed that the current governor was oblivious to the unfolding political realities.
Governor Yusuf’s response to these provocations was firm and resolute.
He warned anyone who dared to threaten the people of Kano that they would face the full consequences.
“Let me be clear,” he said, “whoever threatens the good people of Kano will face the repercussions. We are ready, and I will not hesitate to take decisive action against them.”
Turning his attention to the 2027 election chatter, Yusuf reminded his detractors, “Power belongs to God. It is He who grants leadership, and we pray that He grants it only to those with the best interests of the people of Kano at heart.”
With absolute confidence in divine will, Yusuf expressed his belief that no matter how many forces conspire against them, their success is ultimately in God’s hands.
“We will not be intimidated or threatened,” he affirmed. “Our focus is not on 2027. Our priority is to fulfill the mandate entrusted to us by the people of Kano, to continue delivering the dividends of democracy and serving our people diligently.”
He concluded with a prayer, “May God grant us the strength and ability to achieve this and to witness 2027 in good health and prosperity.”
