The Nigerian Army has confirmed the killing of two suspects allegedly involved in the murder of four soldiers and the abduction of two Korean expatriates in Rivers State.
Lt.-Col. Danjuma Danjuma, spokesperson for the Nigerian Army’s 6 Division in Port Harcourt, disclosed the development in a statement on Tuesday.
He revealed that the suspects were neutralised by troops of the 5 Battalion during a raid on their hideout in Kalaogbokolo, Ahoada West Local Government Area.
“The gang killed four soldiers and abducted two Korean expatriates working for Daewoo Nigeria Limited on Dec. 12, 2023,” Danjuma said.
He explained that two suspects were apprehended during the operation but were killed while attempting to escape into the bush after a prolonged chase.
According to Danjuma, troops acted on credible intelligence indicating the suspects had returned to the community from their hideout.
Weapons recovered during the raid included an AK-47 rifle, a Fabrique Nationale rifle, a pump-action shotgun, two locally made rifles, three AK-47 magazines, three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and 13 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition.
“The Nigerian Army reiterates that, regardless of how long it takes, criminals involved in such heinous acts will face severe consequences for their actions,” Danjuma said.
He assured residents of the division’s commitment to protecting lives and property and urged citizens to provide actionable intelligence about criminal activities.
