In a remarkable move toward accountability, the Bauchi State Police Command has successfully recovered N784,000 from officers involved in misconduct, returning the stolen funds to the victims of extortion.
Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed, shared this development in a statement detailing the command’s notable achievements in 2024.
According to Mohammed, the Complaint Response Unit, under the Police Public Relations Department, played a pivotal role in addressing public grievances about officer misconduct.
“In 2024, we received 10 complaints against our officers, each of which was rigorously investigated. As a result, we recovered N784,000 from the officers found guilty, and the funds have been handed back to the victims,” the commissioner stated.
Further shedding light on the disciplinary actions taken, Mohammed revealed that 18 officers were held accountable for various infractions.
“One constable was dismissed, four had their ranks demoted, six were issued warning letters, and four others faced reprimands,” he explained.
The commissioner reassured the public of the command’s unwavering commitment to professionalism and service excellence.
“Our disciplinary measures demonstrate our dedication to upholding the highest standards within the Force. These steps are designed to nurture public trust and reinforce accountability in all our operations,” Mohammed affirmed.
