Benue State was shrouded in sorrow on Thursday morning as tragedy struck the Okete community in Ohimini Local Government Area.
A horrific accident occurred along the Otukpo/Oweto Expressway, where a speeding truck crashed into a building, claiming the lives of at least ten residents and leaving several others injured.
Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, visibly moved by the calamity, expressed his heartfelt condolences in a statement issued through his media aide, Tersoo Kula.
Addressing the grief-stricken community, the governor said, โIt is with a heavy heart that I extend my innermost sympathies to the families smitten by the tragic accident that occurred in the Okete community, Ohimini LGA. The loss of ten precious souls in such a bloody accident is a devastating tragedy that has left our state in grief.โ
Governor Alia extended his sympathies to the bereaved families, the people of Ohimini, and the Chairman of the Local Government Area.
He reassured them of the governmentโs unwavering support during this dark time, stating, โIn these sad moments, I assure you that the entire government stands in accord with you. We share in your grief, and our thoughts are with the bereaved families as they console this unbelievable pain.โ
Promising action to prevent future occurrences, the governor emphasized the governmentโs commitment to conducting thorough investigations into the incident.
