The National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Chief Emeka Rollas, has been arrested and detained by the police in Umuahia, Abia State, over his alleged role in imposing an unelected chairman on the guildโs Abia State chapter.
This follows the election of David Onyebuchi Amalaha as the AGN Abia Chairman on May 20, 2023, in Umuahia. Since then, Amalaha has initiated legal action to prevent the national body from imposing interim leadership.
Guild members, including Chika Okezie, Egwuatu Daniel, and Nathaniel Nwoko, accused Chief Rollas of creating division by appointing multiple interim chairmen since 2023, bypassing the elected chairman.
Tensions rose on Thursday when Chief Rollas held a meeting in Umuahia without consulting key stakeholders or Amalaha.
This prompted protests and a police intervention to restore order.
A petition had already been filed against Rollas at the Zone 9 headquarters, leading to his detention alongside Emmanuel Ehumadu, also known as Labista.
