CITAD Enhances ICT Skills of Sokoto’s RAAMP Officials

The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has concluded a two-week training program for 23 staff members of the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) in Sokoto State.

Speaking at the training, the coordinator, Mr. Ahmad Abdullahi Yakasai, who represented CITAD’s Executive Director, Engr. Yunusa Zakari Ya’u, said the program aimed to enhance the participants’ capacities and raise awareness about the importance of ICT in administration.

The training also focused on equipping them with effective strategies for planning, deploying, and managing ICT in their respective fields.

“Globally, it is widely accepted that ICTs are crucial tools for development processes,” Mr. Yakasai noted.

He emphasized the growing need for ICT in administration, particularly given the increasing volume of documents and communications that administrators handle daily.

“Students can use ICT to enhance their learning, teachers can use it to aid their teaching, and administrators can use ICT for day-to-day operations and management of their institutions,” he explained.

Mr. Yakasai further revealed that CITAD has developed a fast-track training module, which has been thoroughly tested and requires minimal time from participants.

“CITAD views this as an opportunity to provide ICT capacity building for administrators. It is, therefore, imperative that officers in the MDAs, especially administrative staff, become proficient in using ICT infrastructure in their offices for the benefit of the staff, government, and other partners,” he added.

In his remarks, Engr. Malami Umar Tambuwal, Secretary of RAAMP in Sokoto State, highlighted the critical role of ICT in ensuring the success of the project. He stated that ICT is embedded in the project’s work plan and predicted that offices would soon transition to online interactions.

“It is essential to embrace ICT to avoid being left behind,” Engr. Tambuwal said.
