Couple Arrested for Marriage Without Parental Consent in Kano

Kano State’s Hisbah Board has arrested a couple for allegedly conducting their marriage ceremony at a restaurant without parental consent.

The Deputy Commander General of Operations, Mujahideen Abubakar, confirmed the arrest on Thursday, stating that Hisbah personnel raided the venue on Wednesday after receiving an intelligence tip-off.

“The bride and groom are in our custody. We are also working to reach the witnesses to broaden our investigation,” Abubakar said.

He described the act as “unfortunate,” noting that the purported marriage was arranged by the groom’s friends without the approval of the couple’s parents, which is a fundamental requirement in Islamic law.

The Hisbah Board has launched a manhunt for guests who attended the ceremony, many of whom reportedly fled when operatives arrived.

“We arrested the couple and are currently tracking the groom’s friends who escaped when our personnel stormed the restaurant,” Abubakar added.

The Kano Hisbah Board, responsible for enforcing moral regulations in line with Islamic teachings, stated that the couple violated key marriage conditions under Shari’ah law.

The board reiterated its commitment to taking action against individuals undermining Islamic law in the state.
