Renowned gospel artist Mercy Chinwo has leveled serious accusations against her manager, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, alleging he misappropriated $345,000 in royalties from her digital platforms and event earnings.
In response to a petition filed by Chinwo, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) sought and obtained a warrant of arrest from Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court.
The warrant aims to compel Onyedikachukwu to appear in court to address allegations of financial misconduct.
Chinwo claims that Onyedikachukwu collected significant sums from her digital music platforms and live performances without proper disclosure.
She accuses him of diverting the funds for personal use, leaving her without her rightful share.
The EFCC’s representative, Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari, informed the court that despite attempts to apprehend the manager, he remained at large.
The commission applied for the arrest warrant under Sections 35 and 36 of the 1999 Constitution and relevant provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.
Justice Owoeye granted the EFCC’s request, citing the need to ensure Onyedikachukwu’s presence in court. The case has been adjourned to January 24, when Onyedikachukwu is expected to be arraigned.
In an affidavit filed by EFCC investigator Michael Idoko, it was revealed that Chinwo’s petition detailed her manager’s alleged diversion of $345,000.
The commission stated that all efforts to locate and detain Onyedikachukwu had failed, prompting the court to approve further measures, including a potential public declaration of him being wanted.
