Death Toll Rises To 5 In California Wildfire

A wildfire which started in various parts of Los Angeles on Tuesday night made its way to California on Thursday, as flames swept through the Hollywood Hills.

The fire helped by hurricane-force winds has forced about 137,000 people away from their homes, including Hollywood actors and other celebrities like Paris Hilton, Ricki Lake and James Wood.

At least five persons have been confirmed dead, according to authorities.

The disasters across LA include the Palisades fire โ€” the biggest fire in the region, the Eaton blaze the Sunset, Hurst and Lidia fires.

With no significant rainfall for months and the dry conditions, the fire has destroyed 1000 houses across Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles County fire chief, Anthony Marrone, said the five people who were killed all died in the Eaton fire, adding that all is being done to contain the spread of the fires.

The Sunset Fire, burning near Hollywood Boulevard and its famed Walk of Fame, forced evacuations within the bounds of Hollywood Boulevard, Mulholland Drive, the 101 Freeway, and Laurel Canyon Boulevard.

Meanwhile, on the cityโ€™s west side, the Palisades Fire consumed 15,832 acres, racing from Santa Monica to Malibu and leaving a trail of destruction, burning hundreds of homes, including those of film and music industry figures, to ashes.

President Joe Biden on Wednesday cancelled his planned trip to Italy to focus on the response to the wildfires as firefighters continue to battle the disaster.
