Rivers State Governor Siminalaye Fubara has officially recognised Asari-Dokubo Dabaye Amakiri (I) as the Amayanabo of Elem Kalabari, presenting him with the staff of office and certificate of recognition.
The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has hailed the installation, praising Dokubo for his past leadership as IYC President and his ongoing fight for justice in the Niger Delta and beyond.
In a statement by its Spokesman Amb. Binebai Princewill, expressed pride in Dokubo’s leadership, highlighting his role in the struggle for resource control and self-determination.
The IYC described his installation as the Amayanabo of Elem Kalabari (Torusarama Piri) as “a divine and welcome development” for Ijaws in Rivers State and the broader region.
Princewill further noted, “We have no doubt that our highly revered new traditional ruler will use his wealth of experience, together with other traditional rulers in Rivers State and Nigeria, to negotiate a better deal for his people, the Ijaw nation, and Niger Delta in general.”
The statement also praised Dokubo’s legacy as a former president of the Ijaw Youth Council, noting his contributions to advancing the Ijaw cause.
The IYC extended congratulations to other newly installed monarchs in Rivers State, recognising the ceremony as a positive step for the state. “This is a sign of good omen in Rivers State,” the statement read.
The IYC also commended Governor Fubara for his leadership, urging continued support for his administration.
“As you continue to transform Rivers State with your excellent and uncommon leadership, be assured that the entire Ijaw nation is behind you and proud of your accomplishments,” the IYC said.
