THE National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, expressed his support yesterday for the beleaguered APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
Ganduje criticized statements made by Peter Obi, the Labour Partyโs presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, calling them misleading and inciting his online followers to harass Morka.
In a statement he personally signed in Abuja, Ganduje responded shortly after Morka revealed that he and his family had received 200 death threats following his controversial remarks, which were perceived as inflammatory by pro-Obi supporters.
Morka claimed these threats were a direct result of Obiโs accusation that his comments during a Sunday interview posed a threat to Obiโs life.
Morka sparked outrage during the interview when he accused Obi of โcrossing the lineโ in his criticism of President Bola Tinubuโs administration, asserting that Obi โdeserved whatever came his way.โ
Obi later tweeted, questioning if he had indeed crossed the line by holding the Tinubu administration accountable.
Morka yesterdayย stated that Obiโs supporters had sent him 400 threats, including 200 explicit death threats.
He noted, โPeter Obiโs allegations that my words in that interview threatened his life have triggered serious consequences. I have documented 400 threats, about 200 of which are explicit death threats.
โThese threats detail how they plan to harm meโthreatening to shoot me, behead me, and commit other violent acts. This is not mere rhetoric and has extended to direct threats against my family. These are clear and graphic threats, not vague insinuations.โ
Morka emphasized, โThis entire situation is unfounded and cannot be attributed to me. I did not threaten Peter Obi in any way. Those issuing these threats are acting independently, but I trust that law enforcement will respond promptly to bring them to justice.โ
In his show of support for Morka, Ganduje accused Obi of inciting an online mob against the ruling party.
He stated, โBy falsely claiming that Morka threatened his life, Mr. Obi has severely libeled him and incited his online supporters to issue death threats against Morka and his family. Morkaโs comments during the interview were strictly in response to a question regarding โprophets of doomโ and โvoodoo economics.โ Nothing in his statement constituted or suggested a threat to Obi or anyone else.โ
Ganduje questioned, โDoes Mr. Obi expect the APC to remain silent while the opposition spreads falsehoods without any counter?โ He affirmed that the APC would continue to address baseless allegations with factual responses regarding the Tinubu-led administration.
