Gov Ahmed Intervenes as Fire Devastates Sokoto Timber Market
Governor Aliyu Ahmed of Sokoto State has conveyed deep sorrow over the catastrophic fire that engulfed the Sokoto Timber Market, popularly known as Kasuwar Yan Katako, on the 23rd of January, 2025.
The inferno wreaked havoc, destroying more than 500 stalls and leaving over 4,000 traders grappling with monumental losses.
In a heartfelt statement shared on his official X handle, Governor Ahmed expressed solidarity with the victims.
“On behalf of the government and the good people of Sokoto State, I extend my heartfelt sympathies to all those affected by this disaster. Please know that we stand with you during this difficult time, and we are committed to supporting you as we work towards recovery and rebuilding,” he wrote.
The governor revealed that emergency services were swiftly deployed to the scene upon receiving reports of the fire, in an effort to control the flames and mitigate the destruction.
Furthermore, he directed relevant agencies to evaluate the extent of the damage and promptly deliver relief to the affected traders.
Taking proactive steps to address the tragedy, Governor Ahmed announced the formation of a task force to investigate the cause of the fire and propose strategies to prevent similar disasters.
“We will work tirelessly to ensure that the affected traders are supported, and the market is restored to full functionality as quickly as possible,” he assured.
Reaffirming his administration’s dedication to the well-being of Sokoto’s residents, he emphasized a commitment to implementing safeguards against such calamities.
“Our administration remains committed to the safety, security, and prosperity of all residents of Sokoto State. We will continue to prioritize preventive measures and infrastructure development to safeguard our markets and communities,” he added.
In a solemn conclusion, Governor Ahmed offered prayers for resilience and protection:
“May Allah (SWT) grant strength to all those affected and protect our state from future calamities.”
