A 54-year-old prophet of the Celestial Church of Christ, Eagle Parish, was tragically killed by unidentified gunmen during a service in Odo Eran, Idiroko, Ogun State.
The victim, identified as Yomi Adetula, was attacked around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. The assailants reportedly shot him with a long double-barrel gun and inflicted further injuries with an axe, severely damaging his head.
According to eyewitness accounts, three armed men entered the church, targeted the prophet, and opened fire before fleeing the scene.
Confirming the incident, police spokesperson Omolola Odutola said officers arrived at the location to find Adetula lying in a pool of blood, his white garment stained red. “His body was riddled with pellets, and his head had been severely mangled with an axe to ensure he was dead,” Odutola stated.
She added that the Idiroko Divisional Police Officer ensured the body was transported to the General Hospital morgue in Ilaro.
Investigations have been launched, and efforts are underway to track down the perpetrators, who reportedly fled towards the border area.
