Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has firmly dismissed allegations that his country ever conspired to assassinate Republican U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.
“None whatsoever. We have never attempted this to begin with, and we never will,” Pezeshkian declared when pressed about the alleged Iranian plot to target the incoming U.S. leader.
This statement comes in the wake of the U.S. Justice Department’s November charge against an Iranian national accused of being part of a purported scheme ordered by Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard Corps to assassinate Trump.
The alleged plot, however, was thwarted by law enforcement before any attack could unfold.
Trump himself fueled speculation during last year’s election campaign, claiming Iran might be linked to attempts on his life.
The President-elect, set to take office on the 20th of January, 2025, survived two assassination attempts during the campaign.
The first occurred in July at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, while the second unfolded in September as he played golf at his West Palm Beach course in Florida.
Despite these incidents, investigators found no evidence tying Iran to either attempt.
Iran has also consistently refuted U.S. accusations of meddling in American affairs, including claims of cyber interference.
