JAMB Suspends Law Admissions at Police Academy Wudil, Seven Other Universities
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that admissions into the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme will not be processed for the 2025/2026 academic session in eight universities across Nigeria.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB explained that the decision follows the suspension of law programmes in these institutions by the Council of Legal Education (CLE), the regulatory body overseeing legal education in the country.
The affected universities are Kwara State University, Malete; Bingham University, Karu; Redeemer’s University; Western Delta University, Oghara; Taraba State University; Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo; Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike; and the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.
“As a result, JAMB will not approve any admissions for candidates seeking to enrol in the Law programme at these institutions for the 2025/2026 academic session,” the statement read.
The board further clarified that the suspension of the Law programme at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, will extend to the 2026/2027 academic session, making it a two-year restriction.
JAMB, which conducts the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for admissions into Nigerian higher institutions, also manages the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS), through which universities process admissions.
While JAMB did not specify the reasons behind the CLE’s decision, the suspension underscores ongoing regulatory efforts to maintain quality standards in legal education across Nigeria.
