Kano Governor Unveils Plan to Create 63,360 Jobs Through Garment Industry

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has unveiled plans to create 63,360 jobs for youth through the garment industry across the state’s 44 local government areas.

The announcement was made today during the official reopening of the garment industry cluster in Kura Local Government Area.

Speaking at the event, Governor Yusuf described the initiative as a fulfillment of his campaign promises. “What we are witnessing now is the fulfillment of a campaign promise. With this initiative, we aim to create at least 63,360 jobs annually in the garment industry. Beneficiaries will earn an average monthly income of seventy thousand naira (₦70,000),” he stated.

The garment clusters, originally established during the administration of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso between 2011 and 2015, were left dormant in recent years.

Governor Yusuf also issued a stern warning against sabotage, particularly the theft of machines deployed to the clusters in some local government areas. “We will not tolerate any form of theft or unpatriotic acts that undermine this vital project,” he warned.

Experts in attendance lauded the governor’s efforts. Professor Murtala Sabo Sagagi of Dangote Business School described the project as a game-changer for youth empowerment. “This initiative will not only create jobs but also drive economic growth and enhance the skillsets of our youth,” he said.

Similarly, Alhaji Sa’id Dattijo Adhama commended the governor for revitalizing the garment industry. “This is a significant step towards addressing unemployment and boosting local production in Kano State,” he noted.
